How to Stay Active in Las Vegas: Best Outdoor Workouts and Fitness Spots (Before It Gets Too Hot!)

If you live in Las Vegas, you know two things are guaranteed: sunshine and the kind of heat that makes your flip-flops melt to the sidewalk. But before the summer sizzle hits full blast, Las Vegas offers some awesome outdoor workout opportunities for anyone looking to get (or stay) in shape.

As a local personal trainer who works out with clients in a private training studio (aka, no gym crowds, no judgment), I also love helping people stay active outside of our sessions—especially when we can enjoy the outdoors before the temps hit oven-bake levels.

Let’s break down some of the best outdoor workouts and fitness spots in Vegas—plus some pro tips for doing it smartly in the desert heat.

Red Rock Canyon – Scenic and Sweat-Worthy

This one’s a local gem. Red Rock offers hiking trails for every fitness level. Think of it as cardio with a view.

Beginner? Try the Calico Tanks Trail—moderate incline and amazing views.
Want a challenge? Turtlehead Peak will get your heart rate up real quick.

Pro Tip: Hit the trails early in the morning (sunrise if you’re feeling ambitious). Bring water. Lots of it.

Lone Mountain Trail – Hill Sprints and Sunset Vibes

If you’re looking to break a sweat in under an hour, Lone Mountain’s your spot. The climb is short but steep—perfect for a bodyweight circuit or hill sprints. Plus, you get panoramic views of the city once you reach the top. Great spot to clear your mind and your lungs.

Sunset Park – The All-in-One Fitness Playground

Sunset Park is massive and perfect for jogs, bike rides, or resistance band workouts in the shade. There’s a nice loop around the pond, lots of green space, and even sand volleyball courts if you want to spice things up.

This is a great spot for family workouts or bringing a buddy who just needs a nudge to move.

Clark County Wetlands Park – Peaceful Nature Walks

Yes, Las Vegas has wetlands! If the Strip is too loud and your brain needs a break, Wetlands Park is great for low-impact walking or gentle jogs. It’s one of my go-to recommendations for beginners, seniors, or anyone easing back into exercise.

Outdoor Stair Workouts – UNLV or Paseo Verde Park

UNLV has staircases you can use for short, intense cardio bursts (hello glutes), and Paseo Verde Park in Henderson offers built-in workout stations along its walking paths—perfect if you’re out in that area.

Bonus Tips for Staying Active Outdoors in Vegas:

  • Go early. Mornings are your best friend from May through September. By noon, it’s survival mode.
  • Hydration isn’t optional. Bring water and electrolytes. The dry heat sneaks up on you.
  • Cover up. Hats, sunglasses, and light-colored clothing with SPF will go a long way.
  • Know when to take it inside. When it’s triple digits, train indoors—and that’s where my private studio comes in!
